One of the biggest and best parts {in my opinion} of blogging is the photos! The world wide web is splattered with gorgeous photos whether they are of cute little kids, etsy projects, or inspiring kitchens.

Sometimes taking pictures of daily life and our kids can be a little difficult. It can be hard knowing what lighting is best to use, what settings to should use, no flash or flash, ect… I am sure that a few of you feel the same way. I thought maybe we could all learn a thing or two from each other!

That is why I decided to do a basic photography panel.

What is the basic photography panel?

  • Let’s collect a bunch of tips from mom bloggers, just like you, who have some basic photography tips and suggestions!
  • Everyone can participate! Even if you don’t feel like a fantastic photographer, or that everyone already knows more than you do, it’s not true! We can all learn from each other!
  • So lets all leave a comment or two {right here on this post} on how to make our photos turn out best!

If you are having a brain freeze, here are a few questions to get you thinking!

  • -how do you get your kids to hold still for photos?
  • -do you use your flash? when?
  • -what kind of things make a good background?
  • -do  you shoot above your kids or at there level?
  • -what do you take pictures of?

    I guess I will start! :)

My tip is to try taking photos eye level with your kids. Take the picture of what they are seeing!

    Your turn! :)

First off…you only have a regular camera? How do you get such beautiful photos? I really thought you had a DSLR AND had taken a photography class.

Oh…and love your tip. I recently read something on that and now I get down to their level and my pics have improved (even though I still have a long way to go).

My tip is to use flash only when you cannot get a good picture without it – like at night or if you are in a dark room in your house. The pictures definitely look better…with less shininess and light spots on the pictures. Plus, no red eye :).

I guess I shouldn’t have said “standard” digital camera. :) I have a really nice camera, and I LOVE it! But no, it isn’t a dslr. It is a mega zoom, Nikon COOL PIX L100. I LOVE it! Once day I want to get a dslr and learn how to use it!

I have only a standard digital point-n-shoot camera but am frequently complimented on the photos I use on my blogspot.
My best tip for capturing the essence of any subject matter is to try and represent it in its true form so: natural lighting is always best. As a result, I rarely edit my photographs except to add my watermark.
As for kids, I always prefer to capture them in action, and in their natural state and environment. Of course, it is always wise to remove any messy items from the background before shooting (e.g. laundry or unsightly food messes) so that they don’t distract from the subject of the photograph: the kids.

I read on a blog to go to Michael’s or other art store and buy oversized white art canvas boards with thick wood frames. Nail them together (3 of them) to create a bottom and 2 sides. I suppose a top could also be created if a hole was put in the canvas and a lamp was shone in. The three (bottom and two sides is really good because it allows me to take my artist’s lamp and shine from any direction and create any shadowing wherever I feel I’d like that day. I got 4 boards at Michael’s for 9.99! Much better than the 100’s of dollars for a true to life Photography Set! and any color of lighting can be used above. Good luck! Squishy Hugs from Canada. Kendra, I’m still not getting so much what a favicon is. Can you please take a look at my blog and tell me where it would go? I don’t want to mess around with it.

    Question I do have:
How do I get a cute signature with my little birdies I have down my side gadget area…or having them eat crumbs or something cool??? I also read how to put that cool thing in-between posts but wasn’t able to grasp it. HTML – EEK! I’m a bohemian. Technopeasant at best!!! xox

Please let me know if I am being a jerk! xox Samara
